RIP Fran Crippen

We were all so saddened to hear the news of Fran Crippen's death today at the World Cup in UAE. Fran apparently succumbed to heat exhaustion around 8k and slipped out of consciousness. He was found after Alex Meyer, his USA teammate, noticed that he had not crossed the finish line. Alex and others ran back in the water to help on the search. He was found some two hours later and died in a local hospital.

I only met Fran once, but did a USA swimming select camp with Maddy, his sister, a few years back. The energy and passion for the sport that the Crippen family shows is second to none. My heart goes out to Claire, Maddy, Teresa and the entire Crippen family and Fran's friends. There is no tragedy like a life cut short.

Christine Jennings of RallySport and Eva Fabian were also both treated for heat exhaustion at a local hospital and later released.

Please keep the Crippen family and the entire USA National team in your thoughts and prayers.
