Is it just me or did the single speed thing tip in about early June this year. I have been on my mountain bike single for about 3 years now. The mountain bike guys that do this just have a problem. We say we want to work on our skills or we want it to be pure, or the real asses say that thats the only way other guys can keep up. I just think we want to be fringe and cool. Fair nough right.
Same with the road bikes. The Euro guys wanted to train early season like the Italians or they wanted to be courier cool. When did the single speed become college cool. I was in Minneapolis this summer and I swear more dudes were on singles than on other bikes. What's the deal? Do we really need a bunch of taurined up college kids rolling through town on their single speeds. CU is getting to be a nightmare. I rode through campus the other day on my way out of town to thr south and I came out the other side with soiled shorts and scared to death. I felt like an old lady on the expressway. Talk about stressful.
I guess we ride it out for another year and it will go the way of Cali skater culture and Cali surf culture in Colorado ( are they river surfing?).
Oh and by the way...if you are going single, at least be a stud and go fixie. Oh yeah, no brakes if you want to be REALLY cool.
