Swimming in Triathlon

The state of swim coaching in triathlon is a joke. At the risk of sounding as if my teammate and friend is rubbing off on me, I may have to vent for a bit.

When did the coaches stop coaching and let the athletes run the show. Even the best swim coaches in Boulder are getting sucked into the three line practice (6 of these 12 of these 10 of these, there's your 5k). The triathletes all think that harder is better, less rest makes you faster and good forbid we change our limiting form. Stop giving them what they want and give them what they need.

USA Triathlon has an opportunity to change this. I hope they do. They have interviewed a man that could change swimming in this sport in this country. I fear, from their past, that they will not, but pray that they will. The problem in this country is not that our swimmers can't run, it is that we don't believe that you can teach any old dogs new tricks. Swimmers can run, runners can swim, just have more than a year of patience people.
