So, what's the problem here

So we had the Colorado State Senior Championships this past weekend. RallySport Aquatics had a great weekend. The kids logged 15 more Sectional cuts and three more swimmers qualified for the meet, bringing the team's total to 24. Great huh? Well, not according to everyone. There are some coaches in Colorado who have opening questioned our use of the newest suit technology at this meet. The suits are legal and we just backed again by the swimming federation FINA.

Now some coaches say that these suits should not be legal. I agree wholeheartedly. I hate these suits. I hate what they have done to our sport and I hate the way records are falling. Some coaches say that only National level kids should wear the suits. I am not sure that I disagree with that either. However, where do we draw the line. Who gets to and who doesn't and who decides this.

My opinion is that that line is difficult to draw. If you say to one kid, you are fast enough and to another you say, you are not. How is that helping our swimmers. That is essentially putting one down. That's not fair.

So I have gone out there and used these suits. I have had a girl drop 6 second in a 100 in the last month. Sure some of it is the suit, maybe the first second, maybe even two. But why then did she drop two more and then two more to go from 1:13 to 1:07 in a month. The suit got even better? No, the swimmer got confident. She started to have faith in herself, she started to believe.

You know what? That is what this sport is about. Belief. Faith that you have it somewhere in you to do something that you never have done before. If I have the chance to help someone see that by letting them use an elite, legal suit, then I have to.

Finally, these coaches are missing the fact that RallySport swimmers were dropping time left and right in the suits and out. We used that meet as the culminating meet for all of our swimmers that did not have Sectional cuts. We made it a big deal, we created emotion and excitement there. Even our swimmers that were not swimming came and watched. One boy on our team dropped 4 seconds in the 100 breast in a leg suit and then put on a Blue 70 and dropped 5 in the 100 fly. It's the suit then right?

Don't look at the situation and think maybe something is being done right. Can't do that, cause Rally is a sprint program, a lax program, it isn't hard enough. That's why we had a mile make the sectional cut last month in the mile. He was in a Blue 70. He was this weekend too....this time he dropped 30 more. Did the suit get FASTER? We are swimming well. I don't care if you are or not, but RallySport is . Deal with it.
