The Pikes Peak Velo crew did a great job setting up a fun and fast course this weekend down in Colorado Springs. The uphill pavement start enabled the field to spread out and get set up into the first set of barriers. Gear selection was tricky for the singles as the climbs meant long fast descents and a solid stretch of flat. Needless to say that Darren and I were not able to catch many of the 3's.
The hardest part of the day was with the 3:45 start the mud and melting snow by the creek was very chilly. It definitely woke you up through there.
There were not huge numbers at the race, but the racing was solid and fun as was the trip to the car wash for the bikes after the race. This Colorado Cross season will be remembered for the mud.
