Junior nationals report Day 1 and 2

This is the first National level meet i have been at without the suits. Grand Prix is one thing, but this is a target meet. Shave taper and all of that.

It is slow. Not that slow at the top, the top 30 are back at this meet and that is only a second or two off in from the seeds, but from 30 place on, oof. Molasses compared to the seeds. I looked at 64th in the psych sheet versus 64th in the results, in the 500 free for women it was a 3 second difference. The men are not as far off, except in the breast, but in most events it is similar. However, the women are way off. Those suits helped pack people in and hold them up. there is a lot of crying going on here.

That leads me to point two. It is interesting to watch coaches handle situations. I watched a parent get all up in a coach's face today because his daughter was slow. The coach struggled to explain it, though he did talk about suits. Some kids can't believe that it is an issue, but there is no way around it, if you are as fast or faster now than you were in a suit, you ahead of the game. There are a lot of coaches that cannot deal with that either. they were all pretty sure it was their great coaching that was driving those cuts last year. At least that is what we wanted to think. It fed our egos, but that wasn't really the case and now it is showing up.

As for RallySport, we're doing pretty well. Siobhan and Anna went best times in the 50 and Anna went her second best (best non-suit time) in the 200 and was 48th. She moved up 20 spots and was .5 slower than her seed ( how's that for something) and was a best in the 100 back by a half second, 58.2. The boys have had better moments, but they will be more focused tomorrow.
