A change of perspective

I was sitting by the pool today coaching a small group on New Year's Day. I was voicing to Cameron Dye some of my frustration from the Holiday training. It is nothing major, but the life of a coach is at times thankless. This season many are out of town and attendance hasn't been great. As always, coaches hear more about what is wrong with their coaching than what is right. Cam and I were reminiscing about the old days, when he swam and laughing. He mentioned that there was something up on my desk.

I went up and retrieved it. It was a jersey from The Women's Giro D'Italia from Mara Abbott. She gave me and Breeze one of the Climber's jerseys she earned at this season's Giro. In itself, a special gift.

However, with it was a card. A few simple words changed my entire perspective. I cannot put to words what it meant to me and how it made me feel.

In other words, it takes far less than you think to express how you feel. Mara, thank you, for the card and the loyalty and the friendship. It is why I coach and why I always will.
