Everybody should make sure that they do a couple of things when they train or race regularly.
#1 from time to time go out on a training session with people that you are better than. Realize that you are good and pat yourself on the back and boost the ego. That should last about :30. Then be a help to those people if they want help. Whether it be with technique or advice or just some enthusiastic support. Remember that everyone is on their own journey and it is the responsibility of those close to them to enhance that journey.
#2 and this one is WAAAAAAY more important, with some regularity go train with people way better than you and make sure your world view is in check. There is always people better than you and we often start to believe that we got it going a bit better than we do. So put the ego back in check and remember who you are and what your journey is. If you are racing for fun, don't take it too serious and have a lot of fun. If it is your job, make sure you are all in, but have fun while you are doing it.
Finally, remember that life and who you are as a person is much more important than who you are as an athlete. The first of these tips is essential to being a good person. Remember that no matter who you are and where you are going, there are many who have less and need more. Don't be so caught up in your life that you are unwilling to help.
