Ouch

That was hard. The second Boulder Cross series race was today out at Interlocken. Now the grass out there is always tough, but with the warm weather this year and the continual watering this year the grass was downright swampy. And by swampy, i mean brutally slow. Velcro does not even come close to describing it.

It was a good start and across the grass and up on to the sidewalk to the first barrier. Over the barrier, up the mud slope to the remount into the sand, a 180 and then more sand and back up the hill. By now I was fully in the box. The course then spent another couple minutes on grass, up the hill through switchback, over a man made bridge and then back to the infield. Barriers again and then the wicked off camber turn back to the start finish.

I got a decent start, but not a good one and was working hard to make up ground. I rolled up some guys, but definitatley burned some matches doing it. At one point I remember coming to the start finish hoping to see 4 laps or less and saw 5 to go. Not a good place to be. I did recover a bit to follow Scott Tietzel when he caught me and by 2 to go was ready to crank it back up. It was short lived. It was as though the grass sucked anything I had right out of me. Three guys went by on the last lap and I survived for 29th of 62 starter. I will take top half, but I still want more.
