Now I need to start by saying that I know I am a wreck. I know I crash a lot and I know I can be a bit clutzy. However, pushing it to the edge is part of the reason why those things happen. I could dial it back and probably stay upright, but being on the edge is fun and why do it if it isn't fun.
That brings us to today...Frisco Cross and what a day for it. Sunny, 70 and beautiful.
The course was awesome. A brutal start up the hill, a super fast descent on loose sand and wood chips some gravel and some fast winding turns in the infield. It really was a fast, fun course.
I had a great start, unlike some folks like Allen, and I rolled onto the dirt top 10. I made a conscious choice to move aside for Allen as we hit the dirt. I didn't want to be in front of him and screw up. I don't mind random guys yelling at me, but my training partner friend, I try to avoid that. I was cranking. Rolling well and charging the climb. Solidly in 12th with 3 laps to go when all hell broke loose. Ariel went down in front of me and I rolled right into him. We got up and kept going with seemingly no issues, but it was an illusion. From then on my front brakes we not working well and by that I mean not at all.
Here is where the fun started. I had lost a brake pad on the front and it made braking and turns very hard and it resulted in a dramatic superman crash on the next lap. I got up and got going again, but now no brakes. Two more crashes right through the tape, one awesome one in front of the announcer. I look down and I have 1 brake pad left. 1. Not good. By the end of the race I was Fred Flinstoning downhills to stop or even slow down. Epic. Finshed in 22nd out of 40 some starters. I would take that finish by itself, but to ride the way I did, I'm estatic.
Next week is a new week. Congrats to Breezey for her 4th in the women's 4's and Allen recovered from his disastrous start to take second. He is a huge engine right now.
