US Open of Swimming

Whether you are involved in the sport of swimming or just a casual fan, you know that the technological advancements in suits are wrecking havoc on the sport of swimming. If you visit this blog with any regularity, you know my opinions.

Well, no I am seeing it first hand and it is out of control. The LZR came out just over a year ago as a suit that was 2% faster than anything ever made. Its obsolete. there are swimmers lined up to buy the Arena X-Glide to wear it for one meet. One meet. $300 FOR ONE MEET. Insane.

So are the times. Two guys went 2;10 in the 220 breast tonight. That time would have made the 2008 Olympic team or been very close. A girl went 2:22 and that would have been an American record last year. Not to mention the butterfly swims. The times are unfathomable. I have been in the sport for my entire life and some of these times are difficult to relate to unless i pretend they are yards times.

Unreal.
