This past weekend was the Colorado Senior State meet. This is the beginning of a busy championship season for RallySport Aquatics and I was excited to get to it and see where we are. Our Sectional kids were all going to swim 1-2 days and only a couple events, but the kids that don't have their Sectional cuts yet were going after it. Shaved and Tapered.
Rob, JD and I were feeling very confident watching the guys get ready last week. They looked fast and relaxed. By the first event on Day1 it was obvious that we were right. The 200 free's were awesome. My man Max stepped up and rolled a 1:46.6 for his first sectional cut and Thomas Bruunsgard and Kevin McClellan and Sebastian did not disappoint either as they all dropped 3-4 seconds. Thomas looked more than a little amazed. Anna rolled a 1:51.7 which put her withing .3 of her lifetime best and she wasn't even rested. The weekend would roll on with this pattern.
The high school girls showed their development in the non-HS events as Ali and Kaitlyn showed great 200 Breasts and in the Silver State meet in the morning Hadely got to show her stuff and posted 2-3 new best times.
What I was happiest with was the team dynamic. From the strong swims of Anna and Liam through the weekend (new cuts in the 100 fly and 200 br respectively) to the great presence of the Sectional team on the nights they were not swimming, RACE was obviously focused. That's a great sign for the sectional meet. Watching Ben, Liam and Willy time and cheer for Max as he made his 1000 cut, made me prouder than anything else I have seen this season. Then they stuck around for Rei (he dropped 9 seconds too).
The great swims were too many to count or list. Owen, Quinn and Seana were great in the mornings and the red/black senior kids were all business. This meet marked our goodbye to JD as he moves on to a career in finance and to Kristen, who is taking a head coaching job in Cali. However, there hard work and commitment has been a gift to our entire team. We cannot thank them enough.
We now go off to 14 and Under State with Ozzie, JP, Seana and Hadely in Ft Collins this weekend. Then we are off to Federal Way, WA with 26 kids! I guess in this case, more is better.
